Not making any other promises.
When we got back from the CTFO fest, we were delighted to see that Wye Oak’s sweet new sound-infused motion picture thing was released on Pitchfork TV .
To me, it’s amazing, but i’m clearly biased. A great Wye Oak song in a video starring my daughter showing scenes from my neighborhood. Hell, even our car shows up in there. Producing it was even more fun as the Stack family and musical pals like Caleb Stine jumped in to make it all a reality. Go Us!
Well, Come The Freak On 2008 was a resounding success. A 24-7 highlight reel. Kingsbury Manx reunites and plays classics from Let You Down, Clarque running around setting everyone and everything up right. New sets from Flexxehawk, IMpossible arms and Warmingtons brought ferocious rockings out to the ear drums. Good crowds. Andrew, the pied piper of late night ass shakery dancing about like never before. We had some heroes come out and check the sets too.
Gotta shout out to #1 SMF super fan Terry East. He travelled up from Florida just to listen to it all go down. Thanks Terry. Wye Oak didn’t let exhaustion from a long tour stop them from diving right into the action. Ah, and thanks to the Nightlight. That was a great venue. Cheap beer and ample dance floors but not so uppity that you couldn’t break a beer bottle now and again.
We got a great press on the show in Chapel Hill’s weekly paper thanks to Chris Toenes . Unfortunately, we didn’t have Brad Truax or Brian Repetto or EJ Shaull-thompson on hand, but they’ll be around in Baltimore for CTFO 2009! or else!
Here are some photos taken by Carey (of Thruster) and Clarque (Waumiss, Kingsbury Manx):

Thanks to everyone that showed up to get down.
| Well it’s time to peel off the layers of responsibility, curse the day job to hell, and fully embrace the passions that brought us all together in the first place, or as John Fogerty would say: Keep on Chooglin!!!
Clarque has set things up quite nicely. Thanks Clarque! For two nights at the Nightlight music venue, we will converge, rock, get sauced, split apart, reconvene, sauce, rock, saute, roll, get together; all in that exact order around the clock till we’re done. You’re in right?? I dare you to check the lineup below and then tell me you’re not coming. |

Caroline and Clarque are Waumiss. You’ll see them at the CTFO music fest down in Chapel Hill on September 26th and 27th. There’s way more. Waumiss has a lovely new album out on their lovely new label that they like to call Little Ramona Records.
So….
1) check their new website: http://littleramonarecords.com/
2) pick up the new Waumiss vinyl LP
3) Come the freak on!!!

light and funny on top, deeply annotated when you catch a topic that interests you. Super-high recommendation.

What better way to setup the crowd for a Neil Hamburger show than with the exquisite cacophony of Flexxehawk? Looking at it now, awkward jokes about Madonna’s pussy make perfect sense after emerging from a Matt/Trey dueling guitar squall. The show is on June 25th at the Crowbar in Ybor City and you should go. Until then, go listen to some Flexxehawk because you owe it to yourself.
